Complex Case Management Evaluation & Consultation
Hazelden clinicians are sub-specialists in the practice of psychiatry, addiction medicine and pain management. We serve as independent reviewers on behalf of patients, case managers and payors. Patient evaluations are customized to each patient with a focus on medication harm reduction and clarification of diagnosis. When requested, we serve as independent parties for the purpose of providing sub-specialty medical opinion.
We have become the attending of record for several clients, at patient request, with the support of third party payors for the purpose of treatment of iatrogenic opiate dependence and/or addiction. Our commitment is to patient safety, medication and procedural harm reduction. When clinically appropriate our focus includes cost containment, recognizing that patients with complex medical and psychiatric issues utilize greater amounts of health care resources. Cohesive, integrated care is in the best interest of all parties.
A significant component of our pain management approach is evidence-based review of past and future proposed pain interventions. Our clinicians do not perform interventional pain procedures but have trained extensively in this field. In conjunction with a medical history and physical examination we personally review radiographic information, past medical records and can provide opinion about the clinical appropriateness of procedural intervention. Our clinicians selectively refer to interventional subspecialists who are skilled and conservative with respect to the risks and benefits of performing these expensive and highly technical interventions.
